Ruff Deal for Exeter Swans

Havoc unleashed on Exeter’s feathered friends

Yet more havoc is unleashed on Exeter Quay as a Staffordshire bull terrier attacks one of Exeter’s beloved swans, leaving it badly injured with several puncture marks.

The incident has sparked uproar from the public on Facebook and Twitter, being described as “yet another sickening attack”.

Norman Brooking wrote in to the Express and Echo about the attack, which was viewed by children, on Sunday.

He said: “These attacks are all too frequent and are distressing for all who witness them, not forgetting the birds themselves.

“What is surprising is that the owners are often unconcerned and some even imply that ‘It’s my dog’s right’ and threaten those who intervene.”

The injured swan was taken to an RSPB sanctuary near Taunton, where it was later put down.
