Topless thief who stole £10 crate of Guinness arrested after bridge jump bid

A topless beer thief who stole a £10 crate of Guinness was arrested last night after threatening to jump from a railway bridge.

The man, who has been described as in his mid to late 20s and from Wellington, Somerset, attempted to shoplift the alcohol from the Queen Street Co Op.

Security called the police at 6:15pm after the man ran from the shop with the crate, and he was located topless at 6:50pm on the bridge, threatening to jump onto the tracks.

Police and British Transport were advised to halt all services to and from Exeter Central during the incident.

Trains were suspended for over an hour while negotiators talked the man down.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: “The man is currently in custody and being held on suspicion of shoplifting and public order offences.”
