Exeter to welcome IKEA

Dreams really do come true. IKEA is coming to Exeter.

Fyrkanig, Grunstal and Sparsam might be fun to say, but soon Exeter students will be able to own IKEA furniture too.

Ever since the Swedish furniture giants started eyeing up Exeter last October, we’ve been waiting with baited breath for them to finalise their plans.

Today, our dreams came true.

Ikea’s coming to Exeter…

The store’s Exeter chain is due to open at the beginning of 2015, and it’ll be based next to the Exeter Chiefs’ Rugby Stadium, Sandy Park – on the outskirts of the city.

With a floor area of 20,000 square metres, the store will sell us more flat pack furniture and cheap kitchenware than we ever hoped for.

Derek Phillips, of Exeter’s Chamber of Commerce, is almost as excited as we are. “This is very good news for Exeter,” he said.

“[It] demonstrates its pre-eminence as a retail destination of the South West.”

Until it comes, we leave you with Blogadilla’s Swedish Furniture Name Generator. You’re welcome.
