Hunchback horror for English Professor

Nasty old Richard III is still being a dick from beyond the grave

| UPDATED Richard III

English Prof Philip Schwyzer’s book, Shakespeare and the Remains of Richard III has been five-years in the making, but he’ll be editing it right up to the deadline like the rest of us.

The Hunchback of Leicester’s car park

The recent discovery of the remains of the king under a car park in Leicester has shed light on some of Shakespeare’s mysterious representations of the king.

One of many things Schwyzer is having to deal with is proof of the King’s infamous curved spine which supports Shakespeare calling  Richard III a ‘monstrous hunchback’.

Schwyzer insists his work is still valid, claiming that even with the discovery, mysteries remain about Shakespeare’s depiction of the king. Schwyzer will change what he can, but will also have to persuade his readers to read as though Richard were still under the tarmac.
