Guild action could endanger HIV care

The Guild’s decision to ban the Safer Sex Ball means sexual health charity loses vital funds

| UPDATED banned HIV SSB The Eddystone Trust

Sexual health charity the Eddystone Trust admitted some of their key resources, including educational services and campaigns for vulnerable people, cannot continue without the £20,000 raised by the SSB each year.

Mags Davies, director at the charity, said: “Some of our services would not be provided without the money from the SSB. It is a lot of money, especially as it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise money in the current climate.”

Despite the Guild cancelling the event, RAG have said: “We will look to run a SSB next academic year. However if this will not be the case then we will seek alternate means of funding and running the event.”

The SSB is one of the country’s biggest AIDS-awareness events and has provided support for sexual health charities across the South West for over twenty years.
