Olympic medalist and aspiring celebrity Tom Daley could be among the freshers at Exeter next year.

Exeter has made an offer to the diver, who won bronze at London 2012, in the hope he will come here to study after his A levels.

Rival West Country uni Plymouth is thought to have made an offer to Daley, pitting the two Devon institutions against each other in the race for his signature.

Daley, currently star of his own show on ITV, is believed to be interested in studying a media-based course. He finishes his A levels, which include Spanish, this summer.

Plymouth is currently investing £4m in a diving centre, meaning a Daley move to Exeter would be an extra snub for them.

The teenage sensation is also thinking of taking a year out. Any degree would have to fit in with his training for Rio 2016.

Daley currently studies at the private Plymouth College, where a swimming scholarship can bag students a 50% discount.
