Festive success!

The Christmas Market on the Cathedral Green has been a huge success!

| UPDATED christmas Christmas Market

Exeter’s first Christmas market has been a roaring success. Traders from far and wide came to sell their wares on the Cathedral Green, making for a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the High Street. The market was also full of festive foods for the hungry shopper, ranging from a good Hog Roast to Bratwurst. The Green was transformed into a Yuletide Village of chalet-style stalls, reminiscent of traditional German markets.

The traders, 20% of whom were local, have seen huge footfall since the market was officially opened on the 23rd November with the Princesshay Christmas lights.

Traders delighted in the opportunity to showcase their crafts talents and inviting foods in such an engaging setting.

With so much festive cheer, it is no wonder the market was such an attraction for locals, school-groups and students alike.

Louise Anderson, a 4th year Business with European Studies student said: ‘I went back quite a few times with my dad, sister… friends. I tried a lot of different food. It made a change from the big chains’. Her only complaint was that they needed ‘somewhere to sit’ so that everyone could stay and soak up the atmosphere for longer.

With such a positive response in the centre of town, perhaps the university will be tempted to transform its new space on campus into a Winter Wonderland next advent. If not, we can all just head back to Cathedral Green for our festive kicks, as it looks like Exeter Christmas Market is here to stay.
