Exeter University’s Student Guild is the first in the country to be awarded the British Standard for sound management and procedures in representing 16,000 students.

Although a handful of universities, such as Bristol and Brunel, have received the award, the Guild is the first students’ union to achieve this high standard.

The award closely examines all aspects of the organisation, from provision of student space to waste management.

The Guild were praised for their enthusiasm in promoting environmentally friendly action plans, which can be found here.

James Hutchinson, Chief Executive, said: “This follows several years of hard work by staff, students and volunteers committed to improving the students’ guild’s environmental management practices.

“We now look forward to building on this success, recognising that we can always do more to ensure we reduce our impact on the environment.”
