Ground breaking news

As if it wasn’t bad enough that the heavens are opening and the Forum is drowning, our high street’s roads are also collapsing… Maybe the world is ending.

| UPDATED

Unfortunately, the drainage system underpinning part of the high street has collapsed, and if it isn’t fixed the whole road may fall in on itself.

It’s thought that shoddy workmanship undertaken during the fixing of Second World War bomb damage has caused the roads to sink.

Work will start on Wednesday 16 January and will hopefully be finished by Thursday 28 March, just before Easter. For around six weeks the buses will be diverted away from the section of road from Tesco Metro to just outside Stead and Simpson. Full road closure will begin mid February and no work will take place on Saturdays.

Hopefully the work will be completed on time otherwise we’ll have to go easy on the Christmas feasts, or we may actually cause the Earth to shatter!
