Let there be light

Christmas lights to be switched on this evening after last night’s cancelled event

The Christmas lights switch-on so mercilessly ruined by yesterday’s stormy weather has been rescheduled for this afternoon.

Exeter City Council and Princesshay cancelled the switch-on last night, citing fears for spectators’ safety as high winds and rain swept through the town.

But the event should take place at 4.30pm today, with live bands and entertainment until 8pm.

The lights will be switched on by the Lympstone Military Wives Choir and local chef Michael Caines at 6.15pm

John Harvey, Exeter city centre manager said, “It’s disappointing for all those that have worked so hard to put the event and programme of entertainment together but we hope everyone will join us [today] to celebrate the countdown to Christmas.”

The forecast for this evening is for clear skies with a top temperature of 9°C.
