Maison de Moggy edinburgh cat cafe review

I visited Edinburgh’s Cat Cafe as a dog person and here’s how it went

Cue bad cat puns

I’m a dog person through and through. My dogs are my life. I will bring them up at any given moment, regardless of whether you want to hear about them or not.

Despite this, everyone only says good things about Maison de Moggy, yes, that’s really its name, so I’ve been intrigued to go check it out. Here’s my honest review of the much-loved Edinburgh cat cafe, as a dog person.

How it works

When you arrive, they set out the house rules, show you where to put your belongings and then you’re free to go explore. Instantly, you can see the luxurious lives these cats lead.

There are toys everywhere with jazz playing softly in the background. Fairy lights line the ceiling and there are endless cushions and sofas for you and the cats to sit on.

Growing up with dogs, I’m so used to animals bouncing over to you, demanding love. Things are different at Maison de Moggy. The cats run the show, not you. If you want their attention, you go to them.

There are ten cats tucked away. They all have different personalities but each one is just as cute as the last. The staff were super friendly too and were really happy to tell you all about the cats. Here are some of my favourites!

Alain

Alain is one of their ragdolls and was curled up in a tiny ball on the sofa. He was fast asleep the entire time, and I’ve never seen a cat look quite so pleased with himself.

Pauline also deserves a special mention. She’s their resident polydactyl (she’s got an extra thumb?!) and wowed everyone with her extrapawdinary handshake before we left.

Fabian

Finally, Fabian. Fabian is their Norwegian Forest Cat. He’s very calm and this fluffy feline happily received endless ear scratches. Whether the staff have a favourite, I’m not sure, but I absolutely do, it’s Fabian. There was just something about him that made you want to pet him.

None of the cats are mean or grumpy in any way. They may have all slept the entire time but that doesn’t make them anti-social, they’re very happy to just sleep while you pet them.

And if all that hard work petting the cats has built your appetite up then luckily Maison has just introduced their new autumnal menu! I had the hazel spice latte and it was delicious!

Visiting Maison de Moggy didn’t convert me into team cat. But it absolutely made me realise that not all felines are malicious creatures with an alternative agenda. They want love and attention just as much as dogs.

So to any Edinburgh cat lover, my review is that you have to go to the Maison de Moggy cafe – I guarantee you’ll love it. And to any fellow dog lovers, I’d say give it a go and I promise your dogs won’t feel betrayed. Book here!
