We asked Edi students what they’re giving up for Lent

Tbh I hope a lot of these stay gone for good

Now that the joys of Pancake Day have come and gone, it’s time for us all to get serious and do some real self-reflection.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent; a 40 day period until Easter in which traditionally, Christians would take part in fasting and penance.

However, nowadays many people choose to give something up instead of doing a full-on fast. Examples of things to give up for Lent could include your favourite chocolate or the sneaky link that all your flatmates hate. It’s really up to you.

So with all that in mind, we asked over on The Edinburgh Tab Instagram what you’re giving up for Lent, and here’s what you had to say:

‘Guys with mullets’

Why were you even on them in the first place?

‘Clubbing’

As much as we love it, it does take a toll.

‘Having more than one coffee a day’

Caffeine addiction is real and I feel for you.

‘Falling in love with everyone I see on the street’

Edifess and Edi Love Letters won’t survive the 40 days if this happens.

‘Hockey boys’

They’re just so fit though…

‘One night stands’

A wise decision.

‘My dissertation’

No, you can do it!

‘Getting with Pollock boys and £5 venoms’

Okay but what’s the point of living without either of them?

‘Men’

I propose a full-on cull tbh.

‘Chunky KitKats :(‘

Now that’s a real tough one.

‘Spending money’

Think you might be setting yourself up for failure with that one.

‘Meat. Sad times’

Colonel Sanders and Ronald McDonald are crying rn.

‘WhyNot girls’

One question: why?

‘Dating apps’

Unfortunately, it really is slim pickings out there.

‘Lemon curd’

Random but fair enough.

‘Hive’

We both know you’ll be back.

‘Attending lectures’

Be honest, did you ever even go to them to begin with?

‘Ket’

Your mum would be proud x

‘Giving things up for Lent’

Okay but you’re still giving something up…

‘I’m just giving up’

We’re right behind you.
