Pints ban and takeaway restrictions: What the six new Scottish lockdown rules mean

Nicola Sturgeon has announced tougher restrictions in Scotland following the latest coronavirus figures.

She warned the public that the current ‘stay at home’ message is not having enough of an impact as it was in last year’s lockdown.

Six new rules have been introduced and come into effect on Saturday.

Firstly, click and collect services will now be limited to essential retailers only, with staggered appointments only and no access into the premises offering the service.

Customers are no longer allowed to go inside to collect takeaway food or coffee, such services must be offered through a serving hatch or doorway. Drinking alcohol is also banned in all public spaces, including any form of takeaway pint, as it is deemed as a non-essential purpose to leave home.

The stay at home message is also being amended to make it clear that people “must not leave or remain outside” the home unless it is for an essential purpose.
