How to welcome the cold and embrace winter after your hot girl summer

Hot girl winter is upon us

We're nearing the end of September which can only mean one thing: summer is well and truly over. Your tan has faded, your umbrella is out and the heating is on. Alas, one need not panic, for the best season of them all is here. Here's your very own how-to guide on the best way to face the music and embrace the cold.

Whip out your winter wardrobe

So the weather may have taken a turn for the worse, but that doesn't mean your outfits need to. In fact, quite the oppostite. Nothing screams winter like a good old fashioned cable knit and an oversized scarf. Time for those fluffy jackets to re-emerge from your cupboard and hit the streets of Edinburgh once again. A chance to finally wear all your fashion-forward sweatshirts and just live your whole life in neutral tones. Yes. Please.

The food, the food, the food

It's a universally shared opinion that when winter comes, the food automatically gets better. It's hearty, comforting food which will inevitably mean you end up eating an awful lot of it. Here comes the apple pies, the warming broths, the roast dinners, the peach cobblers, the soups, the hot chocolates, the list is endless.

Book a trip away

Nothing will prepare you for winter quite like the anticipation of jetting off somewhere on hol. But forget sandy white beaches, why not head straight for the slopes and jump on the uni ski trip? Surely the thought of gliding down the runs and dancing on the tables at après is enough to power you through some cold morning walks to lectures. See you on the pistes.

All the best TV is here

If there were ever a reason to get excited about winter it's the abundance of fantastic BBC dramas that adorn the screens every night. Bake Off and Strictly are already in full swing, and it's time to get ready for a new batch of Apprentice entrepreneur wannabes, a new cast of celebrities ready to face the perils of the jungle and bushtucker, and who could forget the ever anticipated return of Gavin and Stacey. Why not channel Smithy and settle down with a chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan and 9 poppadoms. Heaven.

If you're longing for some winter sun, don't forget Winter Love Island makes its debut in January 2020. Sounds like 100% my type on paper.

The countdown to the festive season begins

'Tis the season to be JOLLY. Did you know there's only thirteen Mondays left until Christmas? John Lewis will be airing their Christmas advert before you know it, and the Edinburgh Christmas markets are set to open on 17th November.

As if Christmas wasn't enough anticipation for you, Halloween is also rearing its ugly head. Better start thinking of those costume ideas early, we can't all come dressed as Boris.
