Woman sexually assaulted in gardens behind Calton Hill

The gardens are currently cordoned off whilst the police carry out their investigation


A woman, aged 30, has fallen victim to a sexual assault near Calton Hill, in the Royal Terrace Gardens.

The police were informed of the attack at 03:30 on Monday 21st January.

The gardens are currently cordoned off whilst the police officers continue to carry out the investigation.

The gardens are situated in a popular student area, for those who reside in New Town, sitting between the Omni Centre and Brae House Student Accommodation.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Daily Record: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating following the reported sexual assault of a 30-year-old woman in Royal Terrace Gardens.

"The incident was reported to police around 3.30am on Monday, January 21. Inquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 285 of January 21."
