‘Privileged’ Edinburgh student sentenced to three years in jail for sex attack on fresher
The judge condemned Felix Beck’s ‘entitlement’
Former Edinburgh student Felix Beck, has been sentenced to three years in jail for serious sexual assault of a female student.
The attack took place after the 18-year-old student met Beck on Tinder and invited him back to her room in university halls. He then coerced her into an aggressive and non-consensual sexual encounter, which left her “bruised and bleeding”. Beck bit and choked the student against her will, leaving visible marks on her neck that were later noticed by a member of university staff. The victim has since transferred universities and reportedly suffers from PTSD following the attack.
The victim told the High Court she said “Jesus Christ, it looks like you have beaten me up” after commenting on the red marks Beck had left on her body, with him laughing saying it was “fine”.
After the attack, Beck also allegedly sent the victim a series of messages stating that he “wouldn’t have got aggressive” if he had been satisfied with her sexual performance.
Perhaps most shockingly, at the time of the attack, Beck was already being questioned over a separate rape allegation against a different woman.
After being first found guilty in October, Beck, who was in his fourth year studying History, was suspended from the university. At a recent final trial, he was jailed and placed on the sex offenders register for life.
Lord Uist condemned Beck’s actions, stating: “You come from a comfortable, indeed privileged background, and are in the fourth year of your studies.
“You have only yourself to blame for the situation in which you now find yourself which arises out of the lifestyle you were leading and your sense of sexual entitlement and arrogance.
“The way you treated your victim both during and after your violent attack was callous and disgraceful.
“I must have regard to your background but also to the consequences for your victim and the public interest in the protection of women and punishment of sexual crime.
“The crime was a grave one but not mitigated by any behaviour on your part and merits a custodial sentence.”
Beck is said to have collapsed in tears as he was led, handcuffed, from the dock.
