Edinburgh Uni to CLOSE at 1pm due to severe weather warning

Laura WilliamsonEdinburgh University is to close at 1pm today due to the Met Office upgrading their weather warning from Amber to Red for parts of Scotland, including Edinburgh.
The red alert, the first Scotland has ever received, will run from 3pm this afternoon to 11am tomorrow morning.
Much of George Square is already closed, with King's Buildings set to follow shortly.
University Secretary, Sarah Smith, sent students an email earlier today:
"Dear staff and students, the Met Office have upgraded their severe weather warning to Red from 3pm today. In the interest of the safety of staff and students, we have taken the decision to close the University from 1pm today.
Please feel free to start to pack up and leave and make your way home safely."
