Two people treated for smoke inhalation after fire starts at Potterrow

It’s unclear whether tonight’s event will still go ahead

Two people have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire started on the roof of Potterrow this afternoon.

The building was quickly evacuated and Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair event, which was taking place in the Dome at the time, was cancelled.

A Fire Marshall at the scene told The Tab: "I'm not entirely sure what happened but there were people working on the roof. Alarms went off so it's protocol that the fire brigade turn up."

A spokesman for the Fire service said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a small fire in the roof space of a building on Potterrow in Edinburgh at 1.10pm.

“Four appliances attended and firefighters extinguished the fire using high-powered hoses.

“Two male casualties were treated for smoke inhalation before being transferred into the care of paramedics.”

Edinburgh University Women in Business Society, whose event was supposed to take place in the Dome at 4pm, are planning to relocate.

It's unclear as to whether the Superhero Party with Jack Maynard will still go ahead tonight but reports suggest the building could be back open around 6pm.
