Edinburgh and Glasgow landlords offer students ‘free’ flats in exchange for sex

“Instead of taking any money we can discuss another way you could show me your appreciation.”

Landlords in Edinburgh and Glasgow have been targeting students in gross online advertisements offering ‘sex for rent’.

The adverts, pictured below, were discovered by Heart on Craigslist. In one, an unidentified man offers a flat “10 minutes walk to Glasgow Uni” to a “suitable female in exchange for a friend’s with benefits style relationship”.

Another post offered a flat in central Edinburgh “free of charge to a female in exchange for services.”

Yet another creepy advertisement offering a flat in Edinburgh, posted by a “27 year old guy,”  stated that “any age over 18” would be considered and that “instead of taking any money we can discuss another way you could show me your appreciation.”

The news comes after a BBC investigation found that landlords were specifically targeting vulnerable young women throughout the UK, including students who feel like they have no other option.

According to police, because of the voluntary nature of the arrangements, the adverts are entirely legal until such time that someone is forced to do something against their will.
