Edinburgh’s Leith is in the top 20 coolest places to live in the UK, according to The Times.

Coming in at 15th place overall, it’s the second coolest place to live in Scotland – beaten only by Glasgow’s West End.

It ranked higher than Cambridge, Falmouth and Bournemouth, while the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool and Ancoats in Manchester came first and second, respectively.

The Times noted that central Edinburgh, despite the annual Fringe festival, is ‘too bourgeois to be cool’ whereas the northern district ‘offers grit and creative spirit’.

As well as this, as the old maritime centre of the city, it is one of the fastest-growing neighbourhoods in Scotland, with The Village pub having monthly pop-up theatre and a new street market which has been given £1.3 million of funding.
