Nine hour police siege in Abbeyhill

No one was injured


Armed police closed a road near Waverley Park in Abbeyhill for nine hours yesterday after a reported incident involving a young man.

No one was injured during the incident and the conflict came to an end at around midnight, nine hours after police initially closed the road.

A 21 year old man and a 44 year old man were detained, with the former being charged with a breach of peace and is to attend a court in Edinburgh on Monday. The 44 year old was sent to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment although it is has been said that he was not injured during the siege.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland told Edinburgh Evening News: “Police in Edinburgh were called to an address in Waverley Park on Saturday, February 4, following a report of concern for a person within.

“Local and specialist resources were deployed in order to ensure the safety of the public and officers. The operation came to a peaceful conclusion shortly before midnight.”
