Edinburgh ranked in the top 50 universities in the world

We’re the sixth best in the country too


Edinburgh is the 41st best university in the world, according to the Shanghai Rankings released this week.

The new league table published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities ranked Harvard as the best with Stanford picking up second place. Out of the UK institutions, Edinburgh came 6th, with Cambridge taking the top spot and 4th overall, followed by Oxford who were ranked 7th globally.

Edinburgh were also beaten by UCL (17th), Imperial (22nd) and just pipped by Manchester in 35th. However, they were ranked ahead of other top UK universities King’s (50th) and Bristol (57th).

Edinburgh also came top out of the Scottish unis, comfortably beat Glasgow and St. Andrews who were ranked outside the top 100. This year’s results show a slight improvement for Edinburgh, who came 47th last year.
