Man charged in Greyfriars rape

A man has been charged with the rape of another man after a shocking attack in the grounds of Greyfriars Kirk.

Rachid Lamrabet, a 41-year-old from London, was charged today at the Edinburgh Sheriff Court under section one of Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.

The attack occurred in the grounds of Greyfriars Kirk

The incident regards the vicious attack on a 25-year-old in the early morning of August 26th.

The attack occurred on the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge at around 6:30am in the morning.

The area is a main road, which is especially busy during the Fringe.

A Police spokesman said at the time: “Enquiries into the full circumstances of this incident are ongoing.”

The area around Nandos and the bus stop were sealed off, in addition to Greyfriars Kirkyard.

Lamrabet made no plea or declaration and has been remanded in custody and is due to return to court next week.
