Meet the DJs and promoters behind Edinburgh’s biggest nights

Behind every student there’s a club night. Behind every club night there’s a promoter. Behind every promoter there’s a DJ, and behind every DJ there’s a fucked up story.

We’ve all had that one night where we’ve woken up feeling rather worse for wear and so, to make ourselves feel better about our lack of better judgment, we’ve spoken to some Edinburgh’s DJs and promoters what their messiest memory was.

Nicky Checketts (AKA Nick Price)

Studies Business at Edinburgh Napier

Co-director of ‘Skin Deep’, Nick also helps out at Tribe on a Wednesday at Liquid Rooms.

“I always seem to end up passed out on a car bonnet or a pavement, I have no idea how it happens. Also, trying to DJ whilst absolutely wrecked in Perth was an interesting one…don’t think they noticed.”

Gus is a promoter for ‘Skin Deep’ and self proclaimed ‘BNOC’ at Pollock Halls. (Judge for yourself).

“It started in a salsa bar…and ended back at a 25 year old ex-cons room in an 85 year old woman’s house. He proceeded to tell us about his daddy issues…and ask us to stay over. We politely declined.”

Phoebe is a promoter for “Skin Deep” and is generally a bit of a party animal.

“It basically involves me getting a very tenuous invite to a friend of mines, father’s friends 40th. Woke up on the front steps of this gentleman’s club covered in my own sick with one very hazy memory of me going up to a rather attractive middle aged woman and asking her to have sex with me.”

“We crawled through some bushes next to a pond, and ended up in the depths of it by the monkey island. I started to imagine headlines of getting shot with a dart gun or attacked by some animal so upon completing the mission of seeing the monkeys we made a hasty exit and got the fuck out of there. We drove straight to Belgium.”
