BNOC of the year left distraught after spending £350 on illegal swegway

He’s even started a petition in protest

2015 BNOC of the year Bart Myners has been left heartbroken after ordering a £350 swegway the day before the news broke that they were illegal to use in public.

The second year said: “So essentially I took the plunge and ordered a swegway on Sunday, slept very soundly indeed and woke up to read much to my dismay that the official advice is that it is illegal to ride the things on roads and pavements.

He felt angry enough about the law to do some research on it, he said : “I didn’t much fancy solely cruising up and down our driveway so I did a little research on the underlying legislation. It turns out the relevant laws are completely antiquated, section 72 of the Highway Act hasn’t been updated since 1835 and the Scottish equivalent is over 30 years old too.

But the law change isn’t going to stop Bart. Our resident BNOC said : “Whilst I’d fancy my chances of outrunning the bobbies in a high-speed chase, it’s frankly an atrocity that I could technically be arrested or fined hundreds when mobility scooters and such are completely legal.”

Distraught

Bart, who made a name for himself as a fresher for his ‘knucklehead’ appearance around Pollock Halls and for taking spontaneous trips to Perth in the middle of the night, is looking to use his influence on campus to start a movement to change the current law.

The politics and economics second year said : “So I took action. I’ve got a petition running on change.org which currently has a little over 100 signatories and is growing and I’m trying to get #freetheswegway and #jesuisswegway trending. I want to do as much as I can to get more signatories and hopefully I’ll soon be able to sweg my way to lectures at George Square.”
