Edinburgh is the ‘best place to live’ in the country

Much better than Glasgow

Edinburgh is the best place to live according to the Quality of Life Index 2015.

Unsurprisingly Bradford and Hull are the worst places to live, but it’s not all bad for The North Solihull came 2nd.

The survey looked at 26 different factors including income, life expectancy and – oddly for Edinburgh – hours of sunshine.

Edinburgh has surged nearly 100 places since 2013 when it languished in 98th place, and all of the fastest risers are in Scotland with North and South Lanarkshire moving to 8th and 10th respectively.

Although most of us probably don’t have the average disposable income of £20,083 a year, we can all enjoy one of the fastest broadband connections at 23 MB/s.

Tim’s probably got something to do with this.

Cheap bills were cited as one of the factors helping Scotland even though Edinburgh was described as “the biggest rent rip off in the UK

It’s not all good news for Scotland though, Glaswegians were found to have the lowest life expectancy whilst Buckinghamshire residents have the longest.

And the Western Isles failed Scotland plummeting 15 places to 135th out of the 138 cities surveyed.

Andrew Burns, City of Edinburgh council leader, said, “It’s little wonder that Edinburgh tops the list of the best places to live. Edinburgh is the home of Hogmanay, spectacular architecture, great museums and the biggest arts festival in the world. ”

“This result is further great news for the city. The quality of life in Scotland’s capital is high because the city offers the best of everything.”
