Innovative Learning Week’s oddest events

Better book a flight to Amsterdam

Innovative learning week is renowned for offering new creative ways to learn.

but have some of this year’s events taken it a bit too far?

Here are some of the most exciting activities in this year’s line up…

Danger! Weapons Testing! Experimental Trials in Archaeology

“Ever wonder how effective early weapons were?” NO.

But, if you do, then go along and enjoy a demonstration of replica weapon testing. (One for the medieval re-enactment society perhaps?)

Splash into the Past

Literally putting the “dive in” to innovative earning week.

Students are encouraged to “splash into the past with an introduction to underwater archaeology”.

Better fetch your scuba diving kit before this one gets fully booked…

Sexy Statistics

The university has answered every desperately single fresher’s prayers with this saucy twist on the super fun topic of statistics.

“What’s the ideal number of frogs to kiss before choosing one’s prince(ss)?”

Warning: The statistical answer to this question could be disastrous for some people.

Hopefully it can help this guy out

Mathematical Walking Tour

“A fun and exciting way to find out more about how maths is entwined with our city through a walking tour.”

This event definitely sells itself. Going to look for my calculator now and brush up on my SOHCAHTOA.

Rubik’s cube workshop

A whole day learning about a square toy with stickers on it.

(Spoiler: the stickers are removable so you can solve this “twisty puzzle” in under a minute.)

Twisty fun

The Great University Bake Off

Open to staff and students. Ever wondered if your tutor has better buns than you?

Brainwaves Science Ceilidh

A science themed ceilidh. Perfect if you love learning more about the human brain whilst doing “Strip the Willow” and “The Dashing White Sergeants’.

Fossil Hunting Expedition

Disclaimer: This event is four hours long. Enough said.

Look at all those..fossils

Raisers of the Lost Ark

“The quest is to correctly reassemble New College Library’s historic model of the Tabernacle, and place the Ark of the Covenant inside.”

What on earth.
