Princess Anne visit stops students getting into lecture

Latecomers were told they could not enter building

Princess Anne, the chancellor of University of Edinburgh, made an appearance at the Ashworth Laboratories at King’s Buildings today.

Students were warned in an email that “access to the front of the building will be prevented for a short time around 0905 – 0925 due to the arrival of several important visitors.”

Usual latecomers to lectures were greeted by police and royal officials to be told that they couldn’t come in.

Due to this, a popular second year biology lecture was slightly more empty than usual.

The lecture also started at 8.54am, much to students’ dismay.

Here to open new laboratories in the Ashworth Buildings, and off to engage in other chancellor activities across the university’s campuses, Princess Anne travelled in style.

Sweet ride, man

She was also accompanied by two doormen.

One said: “She probably thinks we’re butlers from the Balmoral.”

Obviously, Princess Anne is incapable of opening doors…

When asked if I could have a chat with her, the doormen said: “You can’t get anywhere near her, unless dressed like this”.

Students apparently need a fancy coats to tell Princess Anne that they are not happy to see their timetable disrupted.
