On Wednesday night, Edinburgh Uni Men’s Hockey Club (EUMHC) decided which unlucky fresher would be the one to take the 14 hour round trip to Exeter and back.

This year’s winner/loser/celebrity is Harry Goodrich from the 4th XI. Follow this blog to see how he is doing.

11.23pm

Harry’s home!

10.11pm

He certainly has, although it is probably not the best diet for a high-performance athlete.

10.07pm

Bristol Uni Hockey coming in with a very strong suggestion here:

9.52pm

Into the final hour or so, Harry is holding out with the help of a Kinder Surprise

9.35pm

More supplies, ie. alcohol.

There’s also more commentary on Harry’s lid:

9.15pm

Harry’s taking more stick on his lid as he closes in on Durham.

But at least he is making sure he is recognisable:

8.15pm

He’s still alive, and closing in on Durham.

8.04pm

Three hours of silence from all fronts has got EUMHC worried…

5.10pm

Logistics foiled Bristol’s attempted kidnapping.

4.38pm

Flowers, beer, chocolate, stash… RED TROUSERS.

So no kidnapping from Bristol today, although the Tab would not put it past Durham.

4.24pm

(Insert immature joke about waiting for D)

4.22pm

Bristol Temple Meads has claimed many a good man.

4.18pm

There’s no shame in having a slow pint. Unless, of course, you travel to the other end of the land to do a pint race, and then lose.

4.12pm

EUMHC had an important question for the other EUMHC.

4.05pm

Harry’s got hygiene issues.

Bristol Uni Hockey Club: the real Room of Requirement?

4.00pm

Stay strong, Harry.

Durham coming to Harry’s rescue with emergency supplies.

Well, at least he won’t run out of straws anytime soon.

3.50pm

Edinburgh, Newcastle, Exeter, Bristol, and now Durham?

3.41pm

The Tab is glad to see that Exeter provided more than just physical sustenance, but emotional support too.

3.36pm

They clearly have something planned… Another kidnapping?

Good to know Harry’s keeping up with current affairs, there is nothing like high quality, in-depth analysis from the Express & Echo.

3.30pm

Harry is now on the return leg:

Traditional tie swap complete, what will Bristol have in store?

3.10pm

‘Silly fresh’: the words of seniors the world over.

3.08pm

Nice to know they have something in common.

2.58pm

Why is the Tab not surprised?

2.55pm

The moment we’ve all been waiting for:

Joy all round.

2.51pm

Let’s hope not.

2.47pm

Getting closer…

2.13pm

Some nice gifts from Exeter?

1.48pm

Bristol Uni: planning another kidnapping?

BREAKING NEWS:

12.20pm

Harry is now going to have a nap.

12.09pm

Jack Banister (Exeter’s chosen diplomat) and Harry have a nice chat.

Harry may be a budding Clare or Wordsworth, but he needs the right inspiration.

10.55am

There’s a reason its called the steel city…

10.37am

10.26am

Low blow from Exeter Uni here.

10.18am

Harry’s been busy making new friends, although he seems a bit upset here.

9.36am

More support from the hockey family.

9.06am

You’ve got to love that hockey family.

8.24am

8.11am

7.44am

Well, at least he has food.

7.07am

Harry is on the train. His fate is sealed.

The deciding rounds (and the EUHC talent show) were witnessed by a busy Malones.

The deciding rounds (and the EUHC talent show) were witnessed by a busy Malones.

The loser was decided at a busy EUHC social after the Varsity games that afternoon. 7 teams nominated two or three each, to go in to the round of sixteen. The tension built after every game of fives, until only two were left in the competition.

It was all a bit too much for some in the hockey club's hierarchy.

Here is the moment where it was all decided:

The Tab will be bringing you the updates through out the day on this live blog, so make sure you keep an eye out.

Harry will board the 7.07, reach Exeter at 2.42, turn round at 3.23, and, hopefully, be back in Edinburgh for 11.03. However, given what happened on the reverse in December, and how excited hockey clubs are across the country, it would be surprising if the journey was as uneventful as that!
