Hostage On The Royal Mile

Police say that suspects are holding a “bladed weapon”.

This afternoon, staff at the Royal Mile Pharmacy on Edinburgh’s most famous street, have been taken hostage.

Reports suggest that two men were involved in the attack, and police have said that the pair had a “bladed weapon” on their possession.

The Royal Mile was shut at about 6pm this evening, with news beginning to circulate shortly after, as tourists and locals were shut off from the street, along with cars and local transport.

Onlookers were faced with a large police presence as they solved what the police are so far calling a “disturbance”.

Police appear to currently be in negotiation with the two suspects, and it has also been reported that there is a pregnant woman amongst those taken hostage.

We hope to bring you more news as it comes in.
