Mavericks to Movements: DUCFS 2017 theme revealed

Don’t be late

‘Mavericks to Movements: Ideas that Changed Fashion’ is the highly anticipated theme behind this year’s Durham University Charity Fashion Show which was revealed in a promo video.

Rowena Soons, president of DUCFS 2017 told The Tab: “It will be the most ambitious creative spectacle Durham University has seen to date, taking you on a journey through the icons that have inspired the movements whose cultural contributions have shaped our understanding of ourselves and our world.

“How we dress, as the ultimate form of self-expression, has reflected how we feel about ourselves and our surroundings since the beginning of time. As huge cultural and social shifts have rocked our world, so too have the Mavericks that have taken solace in the art of fashion”

This year the DUCFS will be supporting the International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian organisation seeking to help refugees and victims of armed conflict. Rowena added “the charity’s support of local community leadership and sustainable development in and around Syria is the reason for everything we are doing for DUCFS 2017.

“Inspired by the empowering initiatives that our charity work tirelessly to carry out, DUCFS is asking everyone to look at their communities and at those further afield and ask what inspires you and who you follow.”

The official launch of the theme will take place on Friday the 21st of October at Wiff Waff, featuring the Glaswegian duo Shaka Loves You.

The launch night will also give you the opportunity to test out the brand new DUCFS Snapchat filter and enter their competition in which prizes include a top of the range scooter, a bottle of port and goodies from sponsor Candy Kittens.
