Durham’s Top 5 Winter Dates

Tempted to ask out that crush you’ve had since the beginning of Freshers’ Week? Got your eye on someone in your lectures? Want to go on a date but not sure where you should take them? Durham is full of great date locations, you just don’t know it yet.

Here are a few ideas of places and events in Durham this term that suit any kind of date, from chilled to chivalrous.

Fabio’s

Very popular but with a chilled atmosphere and a friendly Italian owner, unsurprisingly called Fabio, this is definitely worth checking out. Particularly good when there is live music on as the standard of the bands playing is generally very high.

A good range of cocktails for decent prices and if you fancy some food La Spaghettata (a.k.a. Spags) is just down the stairs with cheap Italian food and 2-litre bottles of wine if the date isn’t going as well as you’d hoped!

Grey College Fireworks Display 2013

A very impressive firework display set to music that is worth seeing every year, funded and presented by Durham’s very own Grey College JCR. This year the display is on Saturday 9^th November.

Not a traditional date by any means but don’t rule it out. Grab some toffee apples and put some warm mulled wine in a flask and you’re onto a winner!

Flat White

Quirky, relaxed and friendly, the perfect place to impress by showing just how edgy you are. Good coffee and fresh, tasty food makes this a great date location. Just remember to wear your Barbour jacket to make sure you both fit in!

Durham City Traditional Christmas Festival and Market

One for the diary! Taking place from Friday 6^th December until Sunday 8^th December in a large marquee on Palace Green. With more stalls in the cloisters of Durham Cathedral there’s over 190 stalls in the marquee alone so this is by no means a small event.

Get in the Christmas spirit on your date by doing a bit of Christmas shopping together, sampling some of the many cakes and meeting the reindeer.

Impress your date with how brave you are by joining one of these free walking tours that leave at 8pm from the Marketplace on the first Sunday of each month. Not for the faint-hearted.
