Equal rights one step at a time

A group of Durham students will spend this coming Friday in high heels to support International Women’s Day.

This coming Friday will see some fancy footwear worn by some of Durham’s students.  A group of students will spend the day in high heels to support International Women’s Day.

The event is spearheaded by Oxfam and the charity’s website encourages students to ‘raise money to transform the lives of women living in poverty around the world’.

However, the event is not female-only, and there are fears that Oxfam could struggle to find enough large stilettos to satisfy the demand of the large group of male fundraisers hoping to embark upon the walk.

The organiser of the event David Hewitt stressed how Oxfam had struggled to find large shoes, especially size six and above.

Hewitt reportedly said, ‘the idea of a heel walk has really captured people’s imaginations. We have quite a few men who are taking part so we now have the problem of getting high-heeled shoes in large sizes!’

Hopefully the boys will manage to slip into some heels and contribute to what will surely be a fun day for all involved and will hopefully raise lots of money for the cause behind International Women’s Day.
