Next time you throw a snowball, think again – it could land you in jail.

That’s the warning from Durham Police, who say unwanted snowfights count as “anti-social behaviour”.

A police spokeswoman told The Tab: “If people throw a snowball at someone who doesn’t want to be part of a snowball fight, it will be treated as anti-social behaviour”.

She warned snowballs thrown at passing cars and buildings would also incur the wrath of the long arm of the law.

The news comes after police in nearby Crook greeted the weather with this joyless message:
