A man has denied allegations of spying on a student in the shower at Trevs last term.

Daniel Steven John, who was accused of committing an act of voyeurism, pleaded “not guilty” in a short hearing at Durham Crown Court last Friday.

The 28 year old from High Grange, near Crook, County Durham was charged with observing the woman doing a private act for the purposes of sexual gratification, knowing that she did not consent.

A Durham University spokesperson said:

“We can confirm that an alleged incident took place on June 12, 2012. The police were called in to investigate and a man has been charged and subsequently bailed pending a forthcoming court appearance.

“Conditions of the man’s bail prevent him from entering University premises.

“The welfare of our students is our first priority and we have been actively helping police with their inquiries.”

The case was adjourned for a trial, which is scheduled to start at the court on Wednesday 13 February next year.
