Police called to Library after bizarre incident

The Durham Constabulary were called to the University Library on Tuesday after reports from library officials of a man being discovered in the cubicles of the ladies' toilet facilities.

The cops reportedly took fingerprints of the area, and eyewitnesses assert that there were footprints on one of the toilet seats. By the time the police had turned up, the man had left the building.

Indeed, a police spokesman told The One that ‘we were contacted on Tuesday afternoon by security staff at the main University Library, who reported a man had been discovered in the ladies [sic] toilets at the site’

‘He was no longer on the premises and officers attended and carried out initial enquiries. At this stage it is unclear whether any criminal offence has been committed but the matter is still being looked into’

The unidentified man was seen by a number of people working in the library. One student close to the incident, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated that ‘he was around 22ish and sounded like a student’

She added that he was a ‘pretty average looking guy, wouldn't notice him in a crowd sort of thing’. In addition, he was ‘wearing a light blue jumper with light brown hair’ and was of ‘average build’.

In scenes reminiscent of a Benny Hill movie, the man in question was seen being chased around the library immediately after the incident by a particularly riled member of the student body.

While the man remains unidentified, there are spurious rumours that an individual in a blue jumper was seen boarding the X1 bus to Stockton later that afternoon.

If you have any information regarding this incident please contact the Durham Constabulary.

UPDATE: A Durham University spokesperson has told The One: “The welfare of our students is our first priority and we are actively helping police with their inquiries into this incident. As this is an on-going police matter it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
