18-year-old boy believed to be from Coventry becomes youngest to die with coronavirus

The death toll has now risen to 281

An 18 year old boy that is believed to have been from Coventry has become the UK’s youngest victim of coronavirus.

This comes after the number of people infected rose to 5,683 in six days. The death toll for coronavirus in the UK currently stands at 281.

Professor Kiran Patel, chief medical officer for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, went on to say; “We can confirm that sadly a patient who was being treated for significant underlying health issues has passed away at University Hospital, Coventry. They had also tested positive for COVID-19 on the day before they died but this was not linked to their reason for dying. Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time”.

This comes after Coventry University made the decision to postpone spring graduation ceremonies and moved all face-to-face teaching including lectures and seminars, to an online format to limit the risk of spreading the virus.

Coronavirus continues to disrupt life in Coventry with many students making the decision to return home early and final year students having their uni experiences cut short.

Numerous establishments in Coventry have also confirmed they will temporarily close to stop the spread of coronavirus including JJ’s and The Wave.

To stay safe during the pandemic and prevent the spread, please continue to maintain personal hygiene including washing hands regularly, stay at home and practice social distancing.
