Coventry Labour candidate could lose her candidacy over tweet scandal

She is due to be re-interviewed

Coventry South Labour candidate Zarah Sultana is to face a "re-interview" process after controversial posts she made on social media were discovered.

The comments, which were revealed by the Jewish Chronicle, included saying she would "celebrate Blair's death", branding police as "thugs" and referring to a Jewish student as "YT".

The posts were made in 2015 whilst she was still a student, on an account that Sultana has since deleted and she has posted a statement admitting to the comments and apologised.

She is one of several Labour candidates to be re-interviewed by Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) this week. The process means she could lose her role as Labour's candidate for her constituency.

A spokesman for West Midlands Labour said all candidates need to be endorsed by the NEC and that is a 'robust process' in which any candidate that may raise potential issues is re-interviewed.
