A 15-year-old boy was shot outside McDonald’s last night

His injuries are potentially life-altering

A 15-year-old boy was shot outside Cross Cheaping McDonald's last night.

Police were called at 11pm to find the boy suffering gunshot wounds inflicted on him by a group on a motorbike.

The boy was taken to hospital for surgical treatment. His injuries were described as potentially life-altering but not life-threatening. A 20-year-old man was also injured in the attack, and has been discharged from hospital.

The Police have launched a major investigation, which is being treated as an attempted murder.

Det Insp Harjit Ubhi said: "This was an appalling and reckless attack in a part of the city centre which was busy with people enjoying their nights out.

"We are already going through CCTV and identifying witnesses, and are determined to bring those responsible to justice as swiftly as possible."

Polive are appealing to anyone with camera footage of the incident, and "reassurance" patrols are being carried out tonight.

The police are trying to determine if there any links between this and two other incidents from that night. An 18-year-old man was robbed of jewlery outside the Litten Tree pub.

In another incident, three boys aged 13-16 ran into The Cosy Club to hide in the toilets, but were chased and detained by doorstaff. Staff told The Coventry Tab multiple knives were recovered.

One of the doorman told The Coventry Tab: "Around 11:30pm, three young boys ran into the establishment and made a dash for the toilet area.

"An argument was involved in trying to detain them and upon further inspection they were carrying a bag with three knives and the police were called.

"Once the police arrived all three boys were arrested and searched. One more knife was found on the body of one of the boys."
