20 year old dead after collision on Binley Road in Cov this morning

And another person is in critical condition

Three young men all in their 20's, all in the same car, struck a tree on Binley Road at around 6:15am this morning.

Emergency services were contacted after a report regarding a blue Nissan Almera colliding with a tree on Binley Road some time after 6am.

One paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and three ambulances arrived at the scene but unfortunately there was nothing they could do for one occupant of the vehicle.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene while the others were taken to the University hospital. One of the two taken for further treatment is suspected to be the driver.

Some students may recognise Binley Road as the long, main road where many students live and walk to Lidl.

@congo_doc, a twitter user who apparently drove past at around 7:20 am told the Coventry Telegraph "There were about 10 police cars, a fire engine and 4 officers walking in a line down the road".

The police are currently appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Alan Hands from the Collision Investigation Unit states "We need anyone who saw a blue Nissan Almera on Binley Road near the junction with Stoke Green to get in touch". Contact 101, quoting log 322 of the 11th January.
