Cardiff University has confirmed online lectures will continue in September 2021

Cardiff University has announced that online learning will continue in September.

Despite government rules relaxing, the university has said it will be prioritising the safety of staff and students.

However, in-person seminars, workshops, tutorials, and lab work are expected to go ahead.

A Cardiff University spokesperson said: “We expect that large lectures will continue to be delivered online to ensure our student and staff’s health and safety, which is always our highest priority. We will also continue to make full use of all of the teaching innovations we’ve developed over the last year. If this changes, we will update our staff and students.

“It’s important to stress that the position remains subject to change and is kept under constant review. We are awaiting further Welsh Government guidance. If this changes, we will update our staff and students.”

The university has also said that it cannot rule out current safety regulations continuing into the 2021/22 academic year.

These regulations include two-metre social distancing, adhering to face-covering regulations inside buildings, one-way systems, staggered timetables, extra teaching spaces, and increased cleaning measures.

A spokesperson from Universities Wales said: “It is too early to say exactly what student life will look like from September.

“Unfortunately we’re not able to give a picture of how next term will look just yet. This is largely something that will be down to Welsh Government as our unis will be operating in line with any government guidance/regulations.”
