Okay, so now Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs has also given a lecture at Cardiff

It all started with Britney Spears aka Jackie Weaver

Surely you’ve seen Grand Designs? At some point or another, you must have passed by your parents watching it and ended up obsessing over the building they were constructing. Something about the series is so addictive, whether that be Kevin’s soothing voice or the fact they construct obscure and innovative homes. Who knows?

On Tuesday February 9th, Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs graced people’s screens by holding a discussion with Cardiff University’s Dr Jo Patterson, Senior Research Fellow, as part of a series of online events called ‘Cardiff University in conversation with…’, discussing the issues facing our planet and its people.

They spoke about how sustainable housing is being achieved, and what needs to be done to ensure everyone has a sustainable home in the future.

As one student noted, “After years of watching Grand Designs, it was inspirational to listen to Kevin discuss the bright future of innovative and sustainable placemaking.”

Great points were made on resource sharing, behaviour change and social housing.

Cardiff Student, James Wallice, attended the online discussion stating the “Discussion was really interesting; huge focus on the need to be ambitious with housing policy in order to address wider environmental needs.”

“Kevin was just like he is on Grand Designs. Good craic and hitting all the subtle warnings like he does on the show.”
