Man charged with possession of cocaine while Cardiff fresher is fighting for her life
A warning has been issued by police over dangerous drugs
Emily-Haf JamesA 33-year-old from Cardiff has been charged with supplying cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession of cannabis. This comes as an 18-year-old Cardiff fresher was left in critical condition after a suspected drug-related incident this weekend.
Officers were called to Llys Talybont halls of residence in Cardiff on Saturday, November 14th, after an 18-year-old was found collapsed by her flatmates.
She was taken to University Hospital Wales, Cardiff, where she remains critically ill. The girl’s family have travelled to South Wales to be by her bedside.
The 33-year-old was due to appear before magistrates yesterday.
Officers are continuing to investigate the death of a 25-year-old, in what is also believed to be a drug-related incident. Paramedics were called to Taff Street in Tongwynlais at 12.15am on Sunday, November 15, after a man collapsed at the property. Despite the efforts of his friends, and emergency crews, he died shortly after.
A South Wales Police spokesman said: “We are continuing to investigate the death of a 25-year-old man and an incident which has left an 18-year-old woman in a critical condition in hospital.”
“There is nothing at this stage to suggest they are connected but detectives are keeping an open mind and investigating the possibility that the drug Ketamine might be a factor.”
Two families have been left devastated by these tragic events over the weekend, they are being supported by officers while detectives continue with their enquiries.
Detectives have said that a 33-year-old from Cardiff has been charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession of cannabis. He was due to appear before magistrates today.
