Man caught ignoring lockdown told police his journey was ‘essential to buy weed’

That’s one thing to put on the shopping list…

A man caught ignoring the lockdown measures told police officers his journey was “essential” because he “had to buy weed.”

The government have banned all non-essential travel in order to combat the spread of the coronavirus, meaning people can only leave their homes for essential things, including food and basic necessities, medicine, or work that cannot be done at home.

In a post shared on Twitter, South Wales Police said the man was reported in Cardiff for making a non-essential journey, and in possession of cannabis.

Despite this incident, the force has said that the “vast majority” of people have been listening to the government’s advice to stay at home during lockdown.

If you suspect you have coronavirus, you should phone NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47 or 111 for advice.
