Here are the best places to eat and dine out as a vegan in Cardiff

From whole food bowls to ‘The Big Moc’

| UPDATED

As a vegan, it can be daunting to go into restaurants and begin extensively searching through a menu to find what you actually can and cannot eat. We don't just want a cheese-less pizza or an avocado salad, we like a variety of good tasty food. So, after coming to uni and experiencing our local cuisine, we have put together the ultimate guide to cafes, restaurants, and shops to help getting around Cardiff as a vegan a little bit easier.

Here are some of the best vegan eateries in Cardiff:

Anna Loka

Based in the midst of Roath, Anna Loka is known for being the first 100 percent vegan restaurant in Cardiff. Providing breakfast, Sunday Lunch, and even milkshakes, their menu fits all your needs. Luckily for us students if you present a valid student card you can get 10 percent off your order.

Falafel Corner

I know what you're thinking, "not anymore humous and falafel, PLEASE!" But, this is falafel and humous done right. Falafel Corner is a great place to grab an amazing wrap, pitta, or salad when you're in town. Although the restaurant is not 100 percent vegan, it is vegetarian and has plenty of vegan options, so you will find yourself stumped with what to order.

Greazy Vegan

Greazy Vegan has all of your Junk Food needs! It has hot wings, The "Vopper", and "The Big Moc". You can find Greazy Vegan in Castle Arcade, but make sure to follow them on Instagram where they have photos of their delicious burgers, hotdogs, and kebabs.

Milgi

Much to our dismay, Milgo closed down their restaurant in April 2019, but their delicious food can still be found in Cardiff Central Market. Wholesome vegan and gluten-free food can be found at their stall which can be taken away and eaten in the comfort of your own home.

Atma

Atma is a vegetarian cafe kitchen in town with many vegan and gluten free options. Their food, especially their whole-food burgers look, smell, and taste absolutely amazing. They also have meditation evenings where you can go and make friends while channeling your inner self.

Clancy's Vegetarian Emporium

You can find this stall in the Cardiff Market and along with food, they stock lots of different herbs and spices which you can buy to add to your own cooking at home. They have various different foods and a menu that changes everyday, mainly specialising in Indian street food. We recommend getting the vegan sausage roll and the lentil ball. It's cheap too so perfect for your student budget. Plus, if you're already there, you can always go around the corner to the Welsh Cake stand and grab yourself some vegan Welsh cakes!

The Woodville

Known for one of the best places to grab a pint in Cathays, The Woodville actually has an extensive vegan section on their menu. So while you're having a pint with your mates, why not grab a mac and cheese toastie or some nachos.

Blanche Bakery

If you have not heard of Blanche yet then get to know it. Blanche have the best vegan doughnuts we've ever tried and along with this, their coffee is just as delicious. They are always changing up their flavours and have a variety of doughnuts meaning you'll never get bored. They have just had a refurb where they have extended their menu to have burgers!

The Early Bird

The Early Bird is a small cafe in Cathays which is known for its amazing Instagram worthy breakfasts. They even have a selection of banging vegan breakfasts too. Take your vegan and non-vegan friends for brunch here for definite as all their food is made in house which definitely pays off. They also have homemade sourdough which you can buy, and if you're lucky their vegan banana bread will also be in stock and is worth a try too.

Simply V

You need to get to know about Simply V fast if you're a vegan living in Cardiff. They're an independent store full from top to bottom with vegan food. They sell the essentials like nutritional yeast and nut butters, but they also sell many different cheeses, pizzas and even the famous Vego spread. The shop is located in Castle Arcade near the Greazy Vegan.

Beanfreaks

Beanfreaks is another amazing vegan shop which sells wraps and sandwiches, but also other vegan goods like cereals, vitamins, and many herbs and spices you need to make some tasty vegan food at home.

Who said being a vegan was boring?
