Cardiff University has been awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) rankings for 2017.

The TEF aims to show the standards of teachings at University for prospective students as well as staff and students of the University itself.

295 Universities took part in the TEF, with each University, College or alternative providers of higher education, given either a Gold, Silver and Bronze ranking.

The requirements for the Silver ranking is that the University is “delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and outcomes for its students. It consistently exceeds rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education.”

Both Cardiff Met and Swansea University also received Silver in the TEF, whilst Bangor was the only Welsh University to receive Gold.

The TEF has caused some controversy as leading universities such as London School of Economics (LSE), Southampton, Liverpool, Goldsmiths and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) were awarded Bronze in the TEF.
