Exclusive: Cardiff Physics and History rugby team planned sleep with ‘a fatty’ competition for their social

It was aimed at those who could handle the ‘higher poundage girls’

Cardiff’s Physics and History IMG rugby team proposed members participate in a “fuck a fatty competition”, according to a post made in their Facebook group.

The derogatory post was aimed towards “contenders” who have “grown in confidence to handle the higher poundage girls”.

The post read: “Plans for after the rugby are yet to be decided, but im sure it’ll be something along the lines of a ‘fuck a fatty’ competition! Contenders that over the last few weeks have grown in their confidence to handle the higher poundage girls! Anyone willing to take on the pound for pound king … make your presence felt!”

This does not seem to be the first time the “competition” has taken place. The post suggests “contenders” have “grown in confidence” along with reference to a “pound for pound king”.

A spokesperson for the Physics and History IMG rugby team denied the social happened, and claimed it was “one of the guys trying to make a personal joke aimed at one of the other boys.”

They said: “In regards to the ‘fuck a fatty competition’ this absolutely did not happen and was not meant as a suggestion. It was one of the guys trying to make a personal joke aimed at one of the other boys. We would never even think of let alone suggest doing something as objectifying and unacceptable as that.”

The post was made on Thursday 16th March, in preparation of Saturday to celebrate the end of Six Nations.

In a second post obtained by The Tab Cardiff, reference was made to a mixed “CEOs and secretary hoes” social, as decided by the History netball team, which took place last Wednesday.

One rugby team member wrote: “I’m sure many of you love a slutty secretary and wouldn’t mind a night of pretending you’re on the cast of wolf of wall street.”

A spokesperson for the Physics and History IMG rugby team said they “acknowledge” they have used “derogatory and degrading language in the past” but are now going to “stamp out any use of offensive language”.

The full statement read: “As a club we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that we have used derogatory and degrading language in the past.”

“Whilst this has been in private context amongst ourselves we understand that it has wider implications. No offence has ever been meant in any of these comments and we have a close relationship with the girls in question, consider them friends and would never want to offend them.

“We have frequent joint socials with these girls and always come up with the themes for them together, we would never want them to feel uncomfortable. We will continue this strong, positive relationship with them and have future joint socials. Going forward we will stamp out any use of offensive language as we fully understand it is not acceptable in today’s society.”

A spokesperson for the History netball team responded to the comments, saying they have “never been offended” by the rugby team in question, adding that although they “don’t necessarily agree” with the posts they have never “been slightly sexist to any of us girls”.

The statement read: “We history netball girls have never been offended by any of these boys. We are all friends and that’s why we felt comfortable to do a theme like this with them, knowing there would be no pressure to be either character.

“In regards to what they said on their page, yes we don’t necessarily agree with it, but we know these boys beyond what has been posted on their page, and can say 100 per cent, that none of them have ever been even slightly sexist to any of us girls.”
