40 year-old-man pleads not guilty for Freshers’ Week rape

He denied the accusation in court yesterday

Remus Hamza from Neville Street Cardiff denied having raped a 20-year-old in September.

The assault took place outside the University’s Main Building on September 20th in the early hours of the morning.

During Freshers’ Week there were three other assaults in a series of five days, though they are not thought to have any connection.

On Tuesday morning Romanian-born Hamza appeared before Newport Crown Court  to deny one count of rape.

He spoke only to do so and confirm his name through a translator.

His trial date is February 15 2016 and is expected to stand for at least three to four days.

Hamza was remanded in custody by Judge Philip Richards.
