Cardiff rated in top five best places to visit this Christmas in the UK

We are topping everyone’s Christmas list this year

Cardiff has been rated the fifth best place in the UK to visit this Christmas.

A survey by Holiday Lettings (part of the Trip Advisor group) has listed the ‘Top 15 Up and Coming UK Christmas Destinations’, with our beloved Cardiff coming in at a respectable number five.

The website listed some of the reasons visitors have been flocking to the city, from Cardiff Castle to Bute park, and the Millennium Stadium offering its annual Santa Claus Tours throughout December.

Cardiff’s shopping scene gets a Christmas make-over

Cardiff’s shopping scene, which is popular all year round, has also helped get the city into top five, as it gets inundated with customers during the Christmas period, which is only helped by the Christmas Markets that pop up in town.

Perhaps the biggest pull for outsiders is the Winter Wonderland that anchors outside of City Hall, with the self proclaimed ‘Giant Wheel’ visible from some distance. Visitors can lace up and take to the ice on the sizeable ice rink, or take part in classic theme park games.

Infamous ‘Giant Wheel’

Third year Ellie, studying Education, said: “I think it has been voted so highly because it has so much easy access, has historic qualities, it has both city and country-like elements and the shops are fab to get all your Christmas goodies.

“Also, Winter Wonderland is good for everyone as it has small rides for children, ice skating as well as a festive bar for adults.”
