Generous uni establishes scholarship for refugees and asylum seekers

And the SU is taking donations

Charitable Cardiff uni has set up a scholarship to support refugees and asylum seekers looking to study here.

Cardiff University Students’ Union is also collecting donations for Syrian refugees.

The news comes after thousands of people marched through Cardiff on September 12 demanding efforts to help in the migrant crisis be increased.

A donation point has been set up in the SU reception.

Magnanimous organisers are looking for survival items from toothpaste to clothing and cooking equipment.

A spokesperson for Cardiff University said: “We are keenly aware of unfolding situation in Syria and are sympathetic to the challenges confronting those who have been displaced by the conflict.

“The University has this year established a scholarship scheme for asylum seekers and refugees to support those whose ambitions are not matched by their means, and are looking to develop new ways of supporting those affected by the crisis.”

You can lend your support by popping down to the Union second floor and donating anything from old freshers clothes to spare toiletries packed by mum.
